Teresa L. Matchett earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Houston, graduating cum laude in cello performance. Her cello studies were with Martha Gerschefski and Hans Jensen, and she did graduate work with Anthony Elliott. Her performing positions have included principal cello of the Lake Charles Symphony, assistant principal cello of the Theater Under the Stars orchestra, and cellist with Trio Vivant, in addition to her other free-lance work. Her Suzuki work includes a unique class featuring Suzuki teaching for babies and toddlers. Her private studio in north Houston draws many students from Klein ISD as well as other Houston area school districts. Each year many of her students win honors in area All-Region orchestras, Texas All-State orchestras, and various solo competitions. Many of her students participate in Houston's youth orchestras, and she continues to be a regular coach with the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra. She is active as a clinician and has done clinics for Klein ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and Katy ISD. She is also string editor for Gulf Wind Music Press which is owned by her husband Steve Matchett. In addition to being a composer-arranger, Steve is a professional tubist and also teaches in the Klein area.
